Calling all photography lovers! A new exhibit at The Depot Art Gallery in Montauk features the works of four unique photographers: Tom Carroll, Alex Ferrone, Richard Silver and Lou Spitalnick. The show opens with a reception on Saturday, September 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. and runs through September 23.

Tom Carroll creates illustrious collage-like images, all in camera. His photographs are visual stories using color, shapes and design in composing these works on metal.

Alex Ferrone aspires to see differently as she explores her environment from an unusual vantage — a helicopter. Working with seasonally changing sunlight and fluctuating weather allows her to produce natural abstractions of color, tones and textures.

Richard Silver photographs a range of subjects, concentrating on the natural world, especially the more rugged aspects, extreme weather or changing light, with many of his shots taken at night or in low light. He is especially attracted to the organically dramatic — the ephemeral beauty of sky and water seeming to meld together at certain times of day, the starkness of ragged mountainous terrain, the quiet appeal of something ordinary when it’s shrouded in fog or bathed in extraordinary sunlight.

Lou Spitalnick’s photographs of still lifes, particularly flowers, are meant to emulate the works of art of the old masters he has always revered. His work is about the formality that can be achieved in a picture solely with objects in their juxtaposition and arrangement, but it is also about the way objects figure in our perception of, and relationship to, the external world.

The Depot Art Gallery, located at the Montauk railroad station at Flamingo Avenue and South Edgemere Street, is open Thursday through Mondays, noon to 5 p.m. For details, call 631-668-8052 or visit montaukartistsassociation.org.
