Frankie and Johnny at The Clubhouse

authorStaff Writer on Sep 15, 2024

Terrence McNally’s “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune” will be the next play presented by Kassar Productions. The romantic two-hander will feature Edward Kassar as Johnny and Sayra Player as Frankie and will be directed by Marcia Haufrecht. The show will run Wednesday through Friday, September 25 to 27, and again from October 2 to 4 at The Clubhouse in East Hampton.

“It is a story that speaks to us all, not just about romance but our hopes and dreams and worries as people,” explained Kassar. “I’m so fortunate to be working with these talented ladies. The East End has been so supportive of theater and I am excited to bring this show to the stage. This will be my third production at The Clubhouse. It is a wonderful venue for theater.”

The play tells the story of Frankie, a waitress, and her co-worker Johnny, a short order cook — two 40-somethings who fall casually into bed after a night on the town. The need for human connection and the desperation that can follow when one lost soul feels certain he (or she) has met another is at the heart of “Frankie & Johnny in the Clair De Lune,” McNally’s intimate portrait of love in the wake of loss and its associated damage. With character depth and an abundance of laughs, it’s a warm, humorous portrait of the beginning of a relationship.

“When Eddie asked me to direct him and Sayra Player in the wonderful play ‘Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune,’ I was thrilled,” said Marcia Haufrecht. “I didn’t hesitate, didn’t skip a beat, no second thoughts, I said ‘yes’ unequivocally. I loved working with them then, and I’m loving working with them now.”

Shows will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26, and at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 27. Performances will also be offered the following week on Wednesday and Thursday, October 2 and 3, at 7 p.m. and Friday, October 4, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com. The Clubhouse is at 174 Daniels Hole Road East Hampton.
