On Friday, March 8, at 8 p.m. G.E. Smith and The American Blues return to Suffolk Theater, this time with special guest Larry McCray. Smith is one of the most in-demand blues guitarists and musicologists in the world. He may be best recognized as the Emmy-award winning bandleader for NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” but he has also done extensive touring, playing in the bands of Bob Dylan, Roger Waters and recording with artists such as Mick Jagger, Tom Waits and many more.
Smith’s first big break came in 1979 when he teamed up with Daryl Hall and John Oates. Needless to say, G.E. Smith is a true savant of his craft. Joined by Larry McCray — known for his soulful, barrel-chested vocals, he has played and shared the stage with such greats as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Keb Mo, Jonny Lang, Joe Walsh, Levon Helm, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Albert Collins and Joe Bonamassa as well as toured with The Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes, Gov’t Mule, Phil Lesh, Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, and countless others.
Tickets are $39 to $59 at thesuffolk.org. Suffolk Theater is at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.
