On Saturday, August 26, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. the 22nd Box Art Auction to benefit East End Hospice will be hosted by St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton. The auction will take place at the church’s Hoie Hall.

Twenty-three years ago, over 100 artists with connections to the East End were asked to take a small, unadorned box and create a unique work of art that could be put up for bid at an auction to benefit East End Hospice. The first auction was so successful that it has been repeated annually, except during COVID-19.

All proceeds from the auction benefit East End Hospice, which provides care for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones living on the North and South Forks.

This year, approximately 90 of the finest artists on the East End are again creating memorable art boxes that will be auctioned at this event. Some of these artists include: Marilyn Church, Leif Hope, Carol Hunt, James Kennedy, Dennis Leri, Christa Maiwald, Fulvio Massi, Gabriele Raacke, Dan Rizzie, Randall Rosenthal, Hans van de Bovenkamp, Dan Welden and Frank Wimberley. Additionally, the Annual Spirit of Community Award will be presented to Kathleen King, founder of Tate’s Bake Shop.

The public is invited to a “Meet the Artist” preview reception at Hoie Hall at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton on Wednesday, August 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. The boxes can be previewed at Hoie Hall on Wednesday, August 23, and Thursday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Photos of the boxes will be available and can be viewed on the Hospice’s website, eeh.org. Comments by participating artists about East End Hospice are also available.

Admission fee is $100 and includes wine and hors d’oeuvres. The event is at 18 James Lane, East Hampton (St. Luke’s Hoie Hall).
