Critically acclaimed as a songwriter and one of the great guitarists of all time, Richard Thompson will come to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 3.
Named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Mr. Thompson has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting on both sides of the Atlantic – from the Americana Music Association in Nashville to Britain’s BBC Awards and the prestigious Ivor Novello. In 2011, Thompson was the recipient of the OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Most recently, the Americana Music Honors & Awards nominated him for “Artist of the Year.”
A co-founder of Fairport Convention, Mr. Thompson was at the forefront of British folk rock. Musicians from Robert Plant to Elvis Costello, REM, Bonnie Raitt, David Byrne, and more have recorded his work, which includes over 40 album and soundtracks, including Werner Hertzog’s “Grizzly Man.” His most recent CD, “Electric,” was produced by the great Nashville musician Buddy Miller. He has also spent the year headlining shows with Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, and joined the Americanarama Tour sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket.
