Hampton Ballet Theatre School will present “Coppélia,” a comic ballet, this weekend at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater in East Hampton.
Set to music by French composer Léo Delibes, the story centers on the courtship of Swanhilda and Franz. Franz mistakenly courts Coppélia, a doll crafted by the bumbling Doctor Coppélius.
Guest artists include Nicholas Sipes dancing the role of Franz, and Adam and Gail Baranello of A&G Dance Company dancing the divertissement “War.” Rose Kelly, an advanced professional student at Hampton Ballet Theatre School, will dance the role of Swanhilda.
“Coppélia” is directed and choreographed by Sara Jo Strickland. Costumes are designed by Yuka Silvera and lighting is designed by Sebastian Paczynski.
“Coppélia” will be staged at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at 1 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 for general orchestra and $20 for children under 12.
