Every Tuesday evening for the past several months, magician Allan Kronzek has quietly set up his table in the corner of The Green Room bar on the third floor of the Sag Harbor Cinema. Each week from his perch, he has wowed the crowd at the watering hole with his clever sleight of hand card tricks.

By the way, his tricks are impressive and virtually impossible to figure out. During a recent Tuesday session, there were gasps, laughs and a lot of head shaking going around. This guy is good!

“Most people have never seen close-up magic in person, which is an entirely different experience than watching it on TV,” Kronzek explained. “It’s richer, more amazing, more jaw dropping. And while magic is sometimes seen as trivial, the opposite is true. It’s a branch of theater capable of producing aesthetic and intellectual experiences unlike any other.

“There is also a pleasing historical link between magic and movies, going back to film pioneer George Méliès, who was also a magician,” he added.

Check out Kronzek’s “Close-Up Magic” skills for yourself every Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. The Green Room bar, on the third floor of the Sag Harbor Cinema, is open only to ticket-holders and cinema members. Sag Harbor Cinema is at 90 Main Street, Sag Harbor. Visit sagharborcinema.org for more details and to see what’s playing.
