Join artist Carol Saft and poet and critic Elaine Sexton for an intimate conversation Sunday, July 13, at 4 p.m., as they discuss “My Wife, Masked and Unmasked,” Saft’s current exhibition on view at Duck Creek.
This special event offers a rare opportunity to hear firsthand reflections on themes of intimacy, visibility and domestic life as expressed in Saft’s work. In “My Wife, Masked and Unmasked,” Saft paints her wife, Cynthia, in moments of solitude and care, revealing the quiet rituals that shape long-term relationships. With humor, candor and tenderness, these portraits challenge conventional representations of love, aging and queer domesticity in art.
Sexton is a poet, teacher and former senior editor at ARTnews and she brings her critical insight and lyrical sensibility to the conversation. Her latest poetry collection, “Site Specific: New & Selected” (Grid Books, 2025), explores many of the same emotional terrains. With a background in visual arts criticism and performance writing, Sexton offers a compelling dialogue partner for Saft in exploring how art captures life as it’s lived: imperfect, vulnerable and full of grace.
The program is free and open to the public. The Arts Center at Duck Creek is located at 127 Squaw Road in East Hampton. More information is available at duckcreekarts.org.
