Matthew Satz’s painting, “Smoke Painting 4.21.15,” 2015, captures an illusory moment in time, the moment between the physical and immaterial. Join The Church on Sunday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. for the first “Insight Sunday” of its Spring exhibition, “Space – Sight – Line,” where Satz will discuss his elegant painting, the shape of its meaning, and the process fueling his work.
Resourceful, Satz often builds off of remnants and remainders of previous projects, thereby creating an inventive and organic body of work that functions much like an ongoing narrative. His presentation offers a glimpse into that narrative, that mindset and helps viewers discover why the East End and its “immense nature” serve as a paradoxical muse of inspiration.
Matthew Satz was born in Brooklyn and is a contemporary artist based on the East End. He is recognized for his conceptually driven, process-oriented work. Satz earned a B.A. in fine arts from Brandeis University in 1993 and continues to explore and evolve his practice with acute attention to challenging the history of painting. He has lived, worked and exhibited across the U.S. and abroad.
Satz’s work will be on view at The Church during exhibition hours, Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
“Insight Sunday” tickets are $10 (free for members) at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is at 48 Madison Street in Sag Harbor.
