The work of Stephen Laub, a multidisciplinary artist, is included in, “Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing,” an exhibition opening at The Church in Sag Harbor from 6 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

The following day, June 25, Laub will speak at an Insight Sunday event at The Church at 10:30 a.m. Held the last Sunday of each month, Insight Sundays provide individual artists with the opportunity to speak in-depth about their processes, techniques and concepts in the presence of their work. The program allows the audience to see through the artist’s eye.

Originally from California, Laub moved to New York City in 1977, where his performances and videos were presented at venues such as 112 Greene Street, The Kitchen and MoMA, and his sculptural work was represented by the Elan Wingate Gallery.

Over the last 54 years, Laub’s work in performance art, video, film, and sculpture has explored relationships between sculpture and photography, object and image, identity and history. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is in numerous private and public collections. He currently lives and works in Water Mill.

“Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing” explores boxing as both theme and metaphor, evoking complex and multifaceted cultural meanings. The Church and The FLAG Art Foundation in New York City collaborated in the development of these independently curated exhibitions, which feature over 100 works. These exhibitions were meant to be viewed in a dialogue, so viewers are encouraged to attend the FLAG Foundation’s presentation as well, which runs from June 16 to August 11.

Tickets for Insight Sunday are $10 nonmembers and free to members but reservation is required at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is located at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor.
