It's a Jackie Mason Musical

authorStaff Writer on Jun 15, 2025

The Southampton Cultural Center will present a benefit performance of “The Jackie Mason Musical” on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27. The show is a musical-comedy based on the whirlwind romance between legendary comedian Jackie Mason and the mother of Sheba Mason, Jackie’s love-child who stars in the show alongside Ian Wehrle (the renowned Jackie Mason doppelgänger) and an offbeat cast of characters.

Set in Miami Beach in 1977 with a “soaring musical score” including songs “Ode to the Early Bird Special,” “The Finger” and “I Never Met This Yenta,” the true story behind the musical highlights the romantic misadventures of Jackie Mason as Broadway stardom emerges and Sheba is born.

Sheba Mason, the legendary comic’s only offspring, plays the role of her own mother, in love with her own father, and pregnant with herself. The play includes the details of a very public and successful paternity suit filed against Jackie Mason in 1988. Another unusual detail is the fact that Sheba Mason’s mother wrote the play and the music.

Southampton Cultural Center is at 25 Pond Lane in Southampton.
