The “725 Art Show” was originally conceived by the late Elinor and Bob McDade. It was an annual exhibition restricted to resident Sag Harbor artists (“725” refers to the Sag Harbor telephone exchange) and was held at the McDade’s Goat Alley Gallery located at the corner of Henry and Division Streets.
In 2018 and again in 2019, artist and Sag Harbor resident Michael A. Butler revived the “725 Show,” this time at the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum when he was on the staff there. Now, after a five year hiatus due in part to the COVID epidemic, the “725 Art Show” is back and will open at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum on Saturday, September 7, with a free reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Curated by Butler, the show includes work by more than 30 artists and features paintings, sculpture and photography.
All works are for sale with a 50 percent commission to benefit the museum. Former participating artists include Roisin Bateman, Linda Capello, Barbara Hadden, Reynold Ruffins, Peter Solow, Kathryn Szoka and Frank Wimberley.
Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with last entry at 4 p.m. Sag Harbor Whaling Museum is at 200 Main Street in Sag Harbor. Visit sagharborwhalingmuseum.org for more details.
