Jazz, a Play and a Rock Opera at LTV

authorStaff Writer on Sep 11, 2023

LTV Studios will be hosting various events throughout September, including a “Jazz Blindfold Test” with Hamptons Jazz Fest, a staged reading of “Before Vinson” which will star Michael O’Day, and “The Free Life,” Dan Koontz’s new rock opera to honor Malcolm Brighton, Rodney Anderson and Pamela Brown who were the first balloonists to attempt crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and left from Springs on September 20, 1970.

Hamptons Jazz Fest will host Downbeat Magazine’s “Jazz Blindfold Test” on Wednesday, September 13, at 6 p.m. The event will welcome guest Bill O’Connell, a musician and musical director, and Dan Ouellette, a New York-based writer and speaker with an expertise in jazz music, who will moderate. “Blindfold Test” is a listening test that challenges the featured artist to discuss and identify the music and musicians who performed on selected songs. Admission is free.

TV Studios and Playwrights’ Theatre of East Hampton series, founded in 1992 by Mitzi and Perry Pazer and now revived with their blessings by producer Josh Gladstone will host “Before Vinson” on Saturday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m. Written by Michael O’Day and produced by Josh Gladstone, “Before Vinson” is a companion piece to Arthur Miller’s “Death of Salesman.” “Before Vinson” was featured this June at the Valdez Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. General admission tickets are $15 in advance ($20 at the door) available at ltveh.org.

Finally, LTV Studios will host “The Free Life,” a new rock opera, on Thursday, September 21, at 7 p.m. The event is being held to honor Malcolm Brighton, Rodney Anderson and Pamela Brown who left from Springs on September 20, 1970, in their attempt to become the first balloonists to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Their giant balloon went down in a storm off the coast of Newfoundland approximately 32 hours later and the young crew was never found. Band members for this performance include Dan Koontz, James Bernard, Sue Conklin, Fred Glide, Sara Mundy, Andrew Koontz, Bruce Beyer and Steve Shaughnessy.

To purchase tickets, text LTVFREELIFE to 41444.

LTV Studios is located at 75 Industrial Road, Wainscott.
