Sylvester Manor Educational Farm on Shelter Island will present an evening of energetic and heartfelt bluegrass with award-winning artists The Barefoot Movement, on Saturday, April 25, with two shows in the intimate Manor House setting.
Heralded by CMT Edge as "one of the most promising bands on the bluegrass scene," the Nashville-based band aims for a down to Earth performance designed to get audiences to sit back, relax, take their shoes off and stay awhile.
Singer-songwriter and fiddler Noah Wall, from Oxford, North Carolina, began the band after meeting mandolin player Tommy Norris during their senior year of high school. Convinced of their musical chemistry and driven by mutual ambition, they continued to build the band from the ground up throughout their college careers. While Mr. Norris studied classical music and recording engineering at Western Carolina University, Ms. Wall chose East Tennessee State, particularly for its Bluegrass, Old-time and Country Music Program.
Just before graduation, Ms. Wall met fellow student and lively upright bassist Hasee Ciaccio. Hailing from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Ms. Ciaccio brought another female vocal and a solid foundation of rhythm to the group. With the addition of versatile guitarist and singer Alex Conerly of Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 2013, the lineup was complete. In 2014, the band won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Award for Band of the Year.
The Barefoot Movement will perform on Saturday, April 25 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Sylvester Manor, 80 North Ferry Road on Shelter Island. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling Sylvester Manor at (631) 749-0626.
