'Journey Into Tabla,' With Sejal Kukadia at The Church

Sejal Kukadia, an East Hampton-based teacher and musician, will be leading an introductory drumming workshop at The Church in Sag Harbor on Sunday, August 20, at 2 p.m.

This workshop will take place on the lawn of The Church, and will explore the rhythmic sounds of India through the tabla. The tabla is a beautiful and time-honored classical instrument that has become increasingly popular worldwide. The Jam Session Inc. will be providing the equipment and production needs for this workshop.

Kukadia is a disciple of Pandit Divyang Vakil and the author of “Tabla Taalim: A Study in North Indian Percussion.” She is a member of the all-female table ensemble, Taalika, and a former member of the duo Tabla Upaj and the trio Tabla Triveni. As one of the original founding members of Taalim School of Indian Music, Sejal has been working at the school since 2002. In addition to teaching at Taalim, she is the head tabla teacher at Young Indian Culture Group Inc. on Long Island.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for students at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is located at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor.
