Bestselling author, teacher and speaker Mark Matousek invites the public to explore the world of Emerson in his latest book “Lessons From an American Stoic: How Emerson Can Change Your Life,” in the next installment of the Knowledge Friday Series at The Church. Matousek’s talk is on Friday, October 6, at 6 p.m.
Drawing on the transformational teachings of America’s first philosopher, Matousek focuses on self-trust, originality and nonconformity during this inspiring event. He teaches that within each person is a “direct path revealing the wisdom already inside you,” and shares Emerson’s advice on how to put this wisdom to use. As Emerson wrote in his famous essay, “Self-Reliance,” “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.”
Focusing on personal awakening and creative excellence, Matousek mentors and guides students through transformational writing methods and self-inquiry. With over 30 years as a memoirist, editor, interviewer, survivor, activist and spiritual seeker, he has applied his experience to help thousands worldwide.
Knowledge Fridays, held at The Church on the first Friday of each month, highlight outstanding East End locals with various backgrounds and careers. The program allows the audience to meet and learn about dynamic, inspiring and fascinating residents.
