Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will perform at The Suffolk on Thursday, October 9, at 8 p.m.
Tunstall made an indelible mark on the music world with her 2004 multi-platinum debut album, “Eye to the Telescope,” and quickly established herself as a formidable force in the industry. Known for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, the Scottish artist has spent nearly two decades crafting a career that spans genres from introspective folk to gritty rock and experimental electro-pop.
Her breakthrough moment came during a 2004 appearance on the U.K. music show “Later … With Jools Holland,” where she performed “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” using only a guitar, loop pedal and tambourine. That performance earned her instant acclaim and catapulted her to international fame, making her one of the first artists to popularize live looping.
“Eye to the Telescope” produced several hit singles, including “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” “Other Side of the World” and the soaring anthem “Suddenly I See,” which gained further recognition when it was featured prominently in the opening scene of the film “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Her 2007 follow-up album, “Drastic Fantastic,” expanded her sound with guitar-driven rock, while 2010’s “Tiger Suit” incorporated electronic elements. In 2013, she released “Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon,” a critically acclaimed, Americana-tinged album reflecting personal loss and transformation.
Tunstall later embarked on an ambitious trilogy exploring the themes of soul, body and mind: “Kin” (2016), “Wax” (2018) and “Nut” (2022), each capturing a different facet of her artistic and personal evolution.
Earlier this year, she was honored with the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection. She recently toured with fellow singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin and has also joined Roger Daltrey and Texas as a special guest.
In addition to her music, Tunstall has composed for film and theater, including “Clueless, The Musical,” which is set to debut on the West End in February 2025. In 2026, Tunstall will mark the 20th anniversary of Eye to the Telescope with a rerelease and a special performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Tickets are $49 to $85 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is located at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.
