On Friday, July 24, at 6 p.m., Keyes Art Gallery of Sag Harbor will host an evening with acclaimed fine art photographer and Broadway-world insider Josh Lehrer to celebrate the publication of his newly released book, “Hamilton: Portraits of the Revolution,” published by Rizzoli New York. In addition to the book signing, Keyes Art Gallery will also have a selection of framed, signed portraits from the book available for sale. All COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect.

“Hamilton: Portraits of the Revolution” invites Hamilfans to experience the award-winning production in a brand-new and intimate way through more than 100 portraits of the cast. Lehrer's up-close-and-personal document of the evolution and revolution that is “Hamilton: An American Musical” was shot exclusively with a Petzval lens, the very first photographic portrait lens invented in the 1840s.

By using such a lens — which requires a long and slow exposure — Lehrer was able to capture the unique intersection of the performer and his or her character in a portrait outside the scope of the show, allowing them to be celebrated in a different manner.

As Lehrer notes in his introduction, “Everyone knew that something special was happening with ‘Hamilton.’ It forces audiences to see the nation’s development and the world from an unexpected, even subversive, perspective. I wanted to use a camera that could somehow reflect that unique perspective.”

Portraits including Lin-Manuel Miranda (Alexander Hamilton), Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr), Daveed Diggs (Lafayette), Phillipa Soo (Eliza Schuyler Hamilton), and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler), along with personal commentary by Lehrer about ‘Hamilton’ the show's cultural and personal impact. With contributions by show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and director Thomas Kail, as well as a curated collection of portraits of some of the historical figures who served as the inspiration for their stage characters, this is the perfect book for the millions who have been moved by, and want to reexperience, the extraordinary theatrical and musical experience.

Keyes Art Gallery (at the American Hotel) is at 45 Main Street in Sag Harbor. For more information visit juliekeyesart.com.
