The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton will host “Lightning Round 2,” an evening of rapid-pace presentations by 10 members of the local creative community, on Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Back by popular demand, each invited presenter will have just under seven minutes to present 20 slides that will advance automatically every 20 seconds. The ongoing “Lightning Round” events, organized by Andrea Grover, the Parrish’s curator of programs, were inspired by Japan’s
pecha kucha
, a short presentation format, designed to cover a wide range of topics in a short period of time. Originating in Tokyo in 2003,
pecha kucha
nights have since become a worldwide phenomenon.
Some of the “Lightning Round 2” presenters at the Parrish on Thursday will include: Scott Chaskey, an educator, poet and farmer who has worked the land at Quail Hill in Amagansett for more than 20 years; Marilee Foster, who was born, raised, and continues to live and farm in Sagaponack; Esperanza León, a Venezuela-born curator who organized the recent exhibition of Rafael Ferrer at Guild Hall; Kareem Massoud, a second generation winemaker at his family’s North Fork winery, Paumanok Vineyards; Levy Mwanza, a musician who was born in Zimbabwe, lives in East Hampton and plays and teaches several African instruments and sports.
Additional “Lightning Round 2” presenters will include: art worker Ada Potter, East Hampton Star editor David Rattray, Sag Harbor-based artist Sabina Streeter, Almond executive chef and proprietor Jason Weiner, and artist Almond Zigmund.
The “Lightning Round 2” presentations at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton will be followed by a reception with wine, beer, and music by dj Mister Lama. Tickets are $10, or $5 for Parrish members. For additional information, visit parrishart.org or call 283-2118.
