East Hampton High School graduate Max Cortes was awarded a $3,000 LongHouse Reserve Creative Scholarship at the 2016 Student Annual IX, which was held on Tuesday, June 14 on the reserve grounds in East Hampton. He was awarded the piece along with two other college-aged students.

Mr. Cortes hopes to get involved in the visual arts, specifically with graphic novels. His winning piece is titled “Secrets,” and is an illustration of a man’s head completed with pen, copic marker and thread.

LongHouse Reserve is a 16-acre outdoor art and sculpture collection created by designer Jack Lenor Larsen. This year marks LongHouse’s 25th year of operation.

Amanda Greenfield, a graduate of Half Hollow Hills East, and Em Watson, a graduate of NYU were also be presented with a $3,000 LongHouse Creative Scholarship Award that centers on ingenuity in the Visual and Performing Arts, Horticulture, Landscape and Design.

Ms. Greenfield is working towards a career in art therapy, and Ms. Watson is practicing dance photography and exploring relationships between sculptural forms and the dance body.

The Student Annual is a program that acknowledges exceptional student work that was motivated by visits to LongHouse during the 2015-2016 academic year. This year, 16 Long Island schools submitted 400 pieces and 128 ribbons were given out to students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, in addition to the scholarship awards.
