The Hamptons’ own Lucky Luciano will headline at The Indie Revolution New Music Showcase on Saturday, April 26, at Katie’s of Smithtown on 145 Main Street, Smithtown.
Presented by A&R Unlimited, this showcase will put the artist’s fate in the hands of his fans. If 150 fans show up to support Lucky, he will be given a chance to boost his career by demonstrating his talent for a panel of record label scouts.
Although Lucky began his hip-hop career 13 years ago, recording his first single alongside rap legend Chub Rock, and has since opened for Eminem at Nassau Coliseum and appeared nationally on Black Entertainment Television’s 106th & Park, he is still trying to break his way into the mainstream.
Appearing along with a roster of other independent artists from an array of genres, Lucky is set to debut his two new singles, “Jumpoff” and “What You Wanna Do,” along with some of his other hits.
Doors will open at 8 p.m. to patrons 21 and older. Admission is $10, or $8 if tickets are purchased in advance.
Lucky’s bookings have been known to pack a club in the dead of winter and his performance last year at Southampton’s Parrish Art Museum Project Hot Shot turned out to be among the most popular of the concert series, confirming his ability to rock the crowd.
A Southampton native, Lucky’s rough circumstances growing up were in stark contrast with the posh isolation of his hometown, giving him a deeply conflicted edge as well as a unique advantage. Appealing to the average hip-hop fan with witty references to sex, drugs, and ferocity, Lucky’s lyrics often reach beyond the common rap topics to deliver messages of politics and humanity.
Born André Nápier in Newport News, Virginia, Lucky lived on a U.S. Naval base in Germany until the age of 3 when his family moved to Southampton. From the days of Disco Mickey, a short-lived phenomenon created by his older brother while the family lived in Germany, music has always been a part of Lucky’s life. He grew up chasing his older brother, begging to be a part of his rap group, and at the age of 13 decided to pursue rap music as a career.
Soon after, he went from writing rhymes during class to performing at teen-night events and neighborhood parties. Over the years, Lucky has become well known on the East End and is one of the better-known names in the underground hip-hop circuit.
