The Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Preservation League of New York to fund a report on the state of the Madoo gardens and recommendations for restoration.

To prepare a Cultural Landscape Report, the Water Mill-based landscape architecture firm LaGuardia Design Group will analyze the existing conditions at the gardens, identify existing plants in different seasons, make recommendations and provide cost estimates.

According to Madoo, the project will be completed in accordance with the standards of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the final report will be based on the National Park Service standards, including supporting documentation such as maps and photographs.

The Preserve New York Grant Program is a signature grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts and the Preservation League of New York State.

“We recognize the importance of preservation work to help maintain the historic and cultural richness of New York,” said Katherine Nicholls, the chair of the New York State Council on the Arts, in a statement. “NYSCA is proud to partner with Preservation League of New York State to provide organizations and municipalities across the state with financial support to advance their preservation initiatives.”
