Contemporary abstract painter Michael Gray Nighswonger will present “Instinct, Intuition & Imagination,” a solo art exhibition that will be on view at 71 Hill Street in Southampton from August 19-22. Nighswonger paints with acrylic on large-scale canvas and the exhibit will feature 20 paintings from his portfolio of work.

Each piece is completely original with its own story to tell. Nighswonger draws inspiration from all aspects of life as he pursues the possibilities alive within the realm of imagination. Each painting demonstrates his passion, commitment, creativity and the boundless potential of the imagination. The artist is an ambitious and adventurous painter exploring the depths and promise of abstract art.

Nighswonger was born in Whittier, California, and developed his passion for painting while living in North Carolina. It was there that he experienced his first success. Nighswonger then moved to the Adirondack Park in upstate New York, where his work and technique continued to evolve.

Nighswonger received early accolades for his work and was commissioned by the New Jersey Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils, to paint 18 pieces that are now featured in the stadium. He has shown in numerous locations and his work can also be found in more than 50 private collections in the U.S. and Canada, including those of sports figures from the NHL and CEOs and executives from Boeing, Conde Nast and Microsoft.

He currently lives in High Falls, New York.

“Instinct, Intuition & Imagination” opens Thursday, August 19, with a reception on Friday, August 20, at 7 p.m. at 71 Hill Street, Southampton.
