Christine Morro, who winters in Sag Harbor and summers in southern Spain, is an artist and writer whose imagination is widened by landscape. She’s curious, inquisitive, and a precisionist. The Sagg Pond collection, extracts from a wider body of work, includes a series of texts and photographs drawing on nearly daily visits to Sagg Pond, a five-year inquiry into present tense perception. Her work is a celebration of a pond, of landscape, of all natural places.  Keenly observant but not mechanistic, she seeks the image that echoes wonder, mystery and awe — the poetry within the ordinary. On her regular visits to Sagg Pond she records what she witnesses, taking photographs and note-taking often during the waking of Sagg Pond at dawn.

“The need to witness, to participate in the life of wild places, has much to do with intimacy,” says Ms. Morro. “From this grows reverence and love. To acknowledge beauty and mystery is my form of activism."

The Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center is at 1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike and is handicap accessible. All Sundays at Two events are free and open to the public. Refreshments are served. For more information, visit longpondgreenbelt.org.
