Nat Geo's Photo Ark Opens At The Southampton Arts Center

author on Jun 24, 2019

In 2006, National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore started Photo Ark, a project that aims to document every species living in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, inspire action through education, and help save wildlife by supporting on-the-ground conservation efforts.

This week, Southampton Arts Center (SAC) opens National Geographic Photo Ark, an exhibition highlighting Mr. Sartore’s images from more than 250 zoos, aquariums and animal rescue centers around the world. Presented in multiple platforms, the exhibition is presented in conjunction with the International Center of Photography (ICP) and is designed to inspire people not just to care, but also to help protect these animals for future generations.

“Southampton Arts Center is excited and honored to partner with ICP and National Geographic to bring this important, timely and stunning exhibition to the East End,” said Tom Dunn, SAC’s executive director. “We hope this show, which will also feature species native to New York and Long Island, will inspire our visitors to get involved to see what we can all save together.”

National Geographic Photo Ark opens with a public reception on Friday, June 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southampton Arts Center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton. The show runs through September 8 and fans are invited to join the conversation on social media with #SaveTogether and #PhotoArk. For more information, visit southamptonartscenter.org. A full story on Joel Sartore’s National Geographic Photo Ark will appear in next week’s edition of The Southampton Press and The East Hampton Press.
