Former Hampton Day School humanities and theater arts teacher Bill Patton will bring his one-act play, “One for the Road,” to the Naked Stage’s new black box theater, The Bridge at BHCH in the Bridgehampton Community House on Saturday, May 1, at 8 p.m.
Mr. Patton taught at the Hampton Day School in the late 1960s and early ’70s and also was a director and instructor in the Southampton College theater program. The author of four plays, including “Uncle Buck,” “For Phenus, One More Time,” and “Bernie Babcock,” he has been a director and acting instructor in theater programs in Charleston, South Carolina, and in Alexandria and Richmond, Virginia.
“One for the Road” revolves around an actor who is trying to decide whether or not to commit suicide. As he tries to determine if he has filled the “vessel of his humanity” sufficiently, he summons his own departed spirit, who has to decide whether to go through the light (through which all departed spirits go) in order to get to the other side.
There will be a roundtable discussion with the author following the performance. Admission to the performance is $10 and advance reservations are required due to space limitations, For reservations, call Tony Hitchcock at 631-219-1022, or e-mail tony.hitchcock@yahoo.com.
The Naked Stage is a non-profit theater company dedicated to the development of theater on the East End of Long Island.
