The seventh annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink raised about $1.4 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) over the weekend, with more than 100 paddlers taking to the water off Havens Beach in Sag Harbor for the WPA-sanctioned morning paddle race.
Jim Rothwell finished first overall in the elite 6-mile stand-up paddleboard race with a time of 1:08:48, narrowly edging out second-place finisher Ed Okinsky by just five seconds. Jack Egan finished third in the 6-mile with a time of 1:11:40.
The recreational 3-mile paddle was more popular, and Bill Winegarden emerged as the overall winner in 40 minutes and 56 seconds. Conor Hartnett (41:49) was second and Tim Morey (44:19) finished third. Gina Bradley was the top female finisher with a time of 46:45.

Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink founder and Sag Harbor resident Maria Baumkicked off the race, which concluded with an awards ceremony to celebrate the winners and top fundraisers, including Team SOS, which raised more than $50,000 for breast cancer research.
"This year the Breast Cancer Research Foundation will award $63 million to 300 scientists at leading medical and academic institutions across 15 countries, making BCRF the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide,” Myra Biblowit, the president of BCRF said later at an evening party. “Death rates from breast cancer have decreased by 40 percent since BCRF was founded 25 years ago and research is the reason."
