Artist and teacher Howard Rose will be leading a series of Plein Air Painting Classes for the summer of 2025 with the Bridgehampton Museum.

Plein Air painting has a lengthy history on the East End with the Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art being one of the first and most popular plein air painting schools in America that had William Merritt Chase as its director. These classes are for artists of all abilities from beginners to professionals and will take place at a series of beautiful and culturally significant locations throughout the East End.

This summer’s classes will meet at various scenic locations across the South Fork on Saturdays. The first session will be held at The Bridge Golf Club on May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in the weeks that follow, for $20 per session plein air painters can also meet up with Rose at The Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs, The Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack, the Peconic Land Trust’s Bridge Gardens, South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton and the Montauk Historical Society’s Carl Fisher House in Montauk.

At the culmination of this program, the Bridgehampton Museum will be hosting an exhibition of works that will be on view this fall and will feature one work per participant. The Bridgehampton Museum’s Nathaniel Rogers House is at 2539 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. To sign up for the workshops, visit bridgehamptonmuseum.org.
