The Church in Sag Harbor will host acclaimed photographer Heji Shin on Saturday, July 13, at 3 p.m. in dialogue about her work with observations with Ebony L. Haynes. Shin’s inclusion in The Church’s current exhibition “Are You Joking?” is a work from her The Big Nudes series that was shown in 2023 at 52 Walker in New York City; past solo exhibitions were at Reena Spaulings in New York City, Galerie Buchholz in Berlin and she was featured in the 2019 Whitney Biennial. The pair will explore humor in Shin’s work, among other topics. A Q&A will follow the discussion.

Heji Shin (b. 1976 in Seoul, South Korea) lives and works in New York. Solo exhibitions have been presented at such institutions as KAT_A, Bad Honnef, Germany (2022), Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2021), and Kunsthalle Zürich (2018). Recent group exhibitions include “No Dandy, No Fun,” Kunsthalle Bern (2020) and “Time Is Thirsty,” Kunsthalle Wien (2019). Her photographs have appeared in publications and periodicals worldwide. In 2025, the artist will present her first solo institutional exhibition in the U.S. at the Aspen Art Museum.

Ebony L. Haynes is a writer and curator from Toronto. She is based in New York, where she is a senior director at David Zwirner and curator of 52 Walker.
