Renowned fine art photographer James Katsipis will christen his namesake gallery, James Katsipis Photography, with a grand opening in Montauk on Thursday, May 23. The gallery is attached to the Montauk Chamber of Commerce building.

Born and raised in Montauk, Katsipis is celebrated for his exceptional ocean photography and stunning visual art. James Katsipis Photography will serve as a captivating space where visitors can immerse themselves in his masterful works. Highlights include his acclaimed fine art photography, customizable commissioned large-scale acrylic pieces, and a curated print shop. Katsipis will be hosting photo seminars and private photography explorations of Montauk. The gallery will showcase a new series of featured works that Katsipis curates, launching every other month. He will be presenting a unique collection of custom surfboards and skate decks as well as his best-selling merchandise embodying his distinct artistic vision.

To commemorate the opening, Katsipis is launching a limited-edition Zine crafted from his “Graintalk” analog film series. The first 50 people to purchase this Zine (in gallery only) will also receive a signed and numbered limited-edition print. This exclusive publication offers an intimate glimpse into Katsipis’s world, capturing the essence of Montauk through the lens of a true local.

“Opening a gallery in my hometown of Montauk has always been my lifelong dream — this is 20 years in the making,” Katsipis said. “I’m thrilled to invite everyone to experience the culmination of my life’s work in my new gallery.”

James Katsipis is a Montauk-based fine art photographer. Born and raised surrounded by ocean, the sea has been an ever-present inspiration and muse whose influence spans the entirety of his career. He learned the basics of photography and developing film in high school and was so enthralled that he soon began cutting class to take photos on the beach. His first assignment came from Eastern Surf Magazine, who had taken notice of his impressive eye for capturing local surfers at the perfect moment. Under the guidance of local photographer Jimmy Wilson, Katsipis was able to hone his craft and develop the techniques that have brought him such impressive acclaim.

For over two decades, Katsipis has traveled the world to capture the action of distant shores as an adventure and surf photographer. James Katsipis fine art photography and commissionable artworks are featured in art galleries, books, media campaigns and magazines around the world.

Katsipis is an outspoken advocate for ocean preservation and specifically, Montauk’s natural coastline, working with local climate leaders, The Nature Conservancy and Save the Wave East Coast Film Festival to promote environmental conservation. While his origins lie in Montauk, Katsipis has traveled the globe to capture exotic seascapes and coastlines. An explorer by nature, Katsipis’s ability to immerse himself among these remote locales and express the power of nature has made him one of the most renowned action, adventure and commercial photographers.

James Katsipis Photography is located at 742 Montauk Highway in Montauk. For more information, visit jameskatsipis.com.
