Southampton Cultural Center’s Liliane Questel Recital Series presents Pianofest alum Jack Gao performing on Saturday, March 1, at 6 p.m. at the Levitas Center for the Arts.

Gao has won prestigious awards, such as the Walter Naumburg Competition, and is among the elite group of pianists currently in the running for the Van Cliburn competition selection, which is about to commence.

He is also composing and will begin the Southampton program with his Impromptu piece, a rare occasion for young pianists nowadays. He will also play a Bartok Sonata, an important piece in Liliane Questel’s repertory. She had achieved success in international competitions with this piece, which she loved very much. As the series is dedicated to her legacy, it’s symbolic to have the next generation of artists play this piece on the SCC stage in honor of Questel. He will also perform works by Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, Oliver Messiaen and Alexander Scriabin.

Tickets are $25 at scc-arts.org or $30 at the door. Students under 21 attend at no charge. Southampton Cultural Center is at 25 Pond Lane in Southampton Village. For more information, call 631-287-4377.
