Pollock-Krasner Grants Awarded

authorDawn Watson on Aug 6, 2013

Now entering its 29th year of grant making, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc. has reaffirmed its mission of supporting individual visual artists worldwide by announcing 159 grants, totaling $2,325,500, awarded to visual artists and organizations internationally in 2012 and 2013.

Since its inception in 1985, the foundation has awarded more than $58 million to artists in 75 countries. The grants support the artists’ personal and/or professional expenses for one year.

This past year, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation opened its Hurricane Sandy Emergency Relief Fund within days of the storm and began accepting emergency requests for grants to professional visual artists. As a result, the foundation has awarded 51 grants totaling $448,500 to artists affected by the disaster. It has also partnered with La Napoule Art Foundation, MacDowell Colony, the Vermont Studio Center and Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild in providing residency space to artists affected by the storm. These grants are figured in the total awarded above.

Pollock-Krasner grants have enabled artists to create new work, purchase needed materials and pay for studio rent, as well as personal and medical expenses. Grants are awarded to professional visual artists internationally, based on dual criteria of artistic merit and financial need.

Painters, sculptors, printmakers and artists who work on paper are eligible to apply. Artists interested in applying should visit the foundation’s website at www.pkf.org to view and complete an online application. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation was established in 1985 to assist individual working artists of merit with financial need through the generosity of Lee Krasner, a leading abstract expressionist painter and widow of Jackson Pollock.
