A public memorial for artist Daria Deshuk, a longtime resident of Bridgehampton who died on March 9 at the age of 60, will take place at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Saturday, April 22, at 7 p.m.

Ms. Deshuk’s art will be on display for neighbors, family, and members of the East End and New York City arts community to view while they share stories.

Born in Queens, Ms. Deshuk moved to Manhattan, where she studied art at Parson’s School of design and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting in 1978. She became part of the early 1980s East Village art scene and continued her education, earning a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Hunter College. She was a member of P.S.122 Artist Space, working and exhibiting for 10 years.

She was a partner of the late artist and filmmaker Larry Rivers for 15 years and the mother of Mr. Rivers’s youngest son, Sam Deshuk Rivers, with whom she lived in Bridgehampton and New York.

According to her son, Ms. Deshuk described her art as “Intensity, interaction, passion and meditation … Condensed into the stolen moment, my choices as an artist extend reality by leading the eye in the re-orchestration of light, space and the pure beauty of paint itself.”
