Cristina Alger’s new book “Girls Like Us” is set between the dark underbelly of Long Island’s South Shore and the elite circles of the Hamptons. It centers on the investigation of three grisly murders on Long Island that were inspired by the real-life Gilgo Beach murders.

The book opens with FBI agent Nell Flynn coming back home to Suffolk County after being away for 10 years. Her mother was brutally murdered when she was just seven years old and her father, a homicide detective, was recently killed in a motorcycle accident. She returns to her childhood home so that she can spread his ashes and close the estate. But her father’s detective partner encourages Nell to get involved in the murders of two young Latina women in the area. The more Nell digs, the more she senses that the murderer may be someone knows.

The book has appeared on must-read lists from PopSugar, PureWow, CrimeReads, Bustle, and more; and has received exceptional early reviews from all trade publications.

Ms. Alger, a part time Quogue resident, will take part in a number of book signings and talks for “Girls Like Us” on the East End this July and August:
