“Salon Series,” is the Parrish Art Museum’s classical music series that presents world-class artists in an intimate, casual setting to recreate the atmosphere of Paris salons will present Sybarite5, an international award-winning New York City-based string quintet on October 21 at 6 p.m.
“Salon Series creates an intimate and interactive environment for master musicians of classical and contemporary music to share their performances in new ways,” Curator of Special Projects, Corinne Erni said.
“The audience is invited to engage in a dialogue with the musicians and learn more about their creative process and program choices.”
Sybarite5 members include Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney on violin, Angela Pickett on viola, Laura Metcalf on cello and Louis Levitt on bass. Sybarite5 has an unique selection of songs that encompass classical styles to modern rock and electronic bands.
Sybarite5 is the first string quintet to win the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, and also received an award from the American Composers Forum, the Sylvia Ann Hewlett Adventurous Artist Prize. They have commissioned awards from BMI, Chamber Music America, Concert Artists Guild, and the Look & Listen Festival. Their debut EP, Disturb the Silence was released in 2011 and reached the top ten on the Billboard Classical Crossover Charts and featured music by Radiohead and Argentine tango composer Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla, Their next album Everything in its Right Place debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2012.
Sybarite5 gave the world premiere of BEATBOX, the first concerto for string quintet and orchestra written by American composer Dan Visconti in 2015.
They made their Carnegie Hall debut at Zankel Hall and have performed in New York at Lincoln Center, the Time Warner Center, the Tishman Auditorium, SubCulture, Galapagos Artspace, the Museum of Sex and more. Sybarite5 has appeared throughout the U.S. at Core Club and the Cutting Room at Library of Congress, Wolf Trap, and Washington Performing Arts Society in D.C., Caramoor Center, Grand Tetons Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and more. They played internationally at New Docta International Music Festival in Argentina and the Tuckamore Festival in Newfoundland.

Tickets for Salon Series include Museum admission and $20, $10 for members. The Golden Pear Café and the Parrish will be open before and after the concerts.
