Savage Nature, featuring artists John Zieman and Melinda Hackett will open at the Peter Marcelle Project, 4 North Main Street in Southampton, with a reception on Saturday, August 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will remain on view through August 21.

Using different mediums, in the manner of photo-micrography, artists John Zieman and Melinda Hackett direct our focus toward the microcosms that surround us. Examining tensions and transformations that escape notice.  Arriving at abstraction from different directions, the works share organic rhythms of line, pattern, and form.

Ms. Hackett is a Manhattan and Hamptons based artist, who has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout the New York City area. “One of my purposes in making paintings is to transport the viewer to a necessarily foreign place, where nature can be experienced without knowing it fully, and where reality is communicated through the senses… My paintings create worlds full of images that float, hover, creep, spin, hang, roll or sleep in corners.”

Mr. Zieman has been directing and editing film and video in Manhattan for many years. His wide range of credits include documentary, feature film, advertising, and cultural / arts programming. Throughout the years, he has continuously created his own personal Video Art work, and worked on high profile projects with other video artists – including Nam June Paik, John Sanborn & Kit Fitzgerald, and Dara Birnbaum.
