In celebration of Black History Month, the Southampton Cultural Center will stage “The Mistress of Monticello” by Tina Andrews on Saturday, February 2, Friday, February 8 and Saturday February 9, at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, February 10, at 2:30 p.m.

“The Mistress of Monticello,” which is about the relationship between Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson, is the play upon which Ms. Andrews’s award-winning “Sally Hemings An American Scandal” miniseries was based. She will be signing copies of her book, “An American Scandal: The Struggle to Tell the Controversial Truth,” at the Cultural Center following the opening night performance on Saturday, February 2.

Additionally, “Visual Heritage IV: Contemporary African-American Artists,” featuring works by Ms. Andrews, Brent Bailer, Manuel Hughes, Rosa Hanna Scott, Reynold Ruffins and Danny Simmons and will be on view through Wednesday, February 27. A free reception is planned for Saturday, February 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Tickets to the play will be $10 general admission and $5 for students under 21 with identification. They will be sold at the door 40 minutes prior to each performance and are also available online at scc-arts.org.
