On Friday, June 4, from 7:30 to 10 p.m., the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill will present its first outdoor program of the season. The museum will screen the film “The Proposal,” a 2018 documentary which is being co-presented with Hamptons Doc Fest in collaboration with Dia Art Foundation.

Known as “the artist among architects,” Luis Barragán is among the world’s most celebrated architects of the 20th century. Upon his death in 1988, much of his work was locked away in a Swiss bunker, hidden from the world’s view. In an attempt to resurrect Barragán’s life and art, in the film, boundary-redefining artist Jill Magid creates a daring proposition that becomes a fascinating artwork in itself — a high-wire act of negotiation that explores how far an artist will go to democratize access to art.

The film screening will follow a conversation moderated by Parrish senior curator Corinne Erni, Magid, and Dia Art Foundation associate curator Matilde Guidelli-Guidi. The event takes place outdoors on the museum’s terrace and event lawn. Guests are requested to arrive at 7:30 p.m. for the talk at 7:45 p.m. and the film at 8:30 p.m., and to bring their own chair. Advance ticket purchase is required at parrishart.org. Tickets are $15, $5 for Parrish members and free for students. The Parrish Art Museum is at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill.
