They came expecting news satire from a raspy-voiced Irish Brooklynite. What they did not expect: a show about nothing.

Jerry Seinfeld made a guest appearance at Colin Quinn’s stand-up comedy show at Bay Street Theater’s Comedy Club on May 27 in Sag Harbor.

Tim Gage opened the show and, to the delight of the audience, introduced Mr. Seinfeld, an East Hampton resident, as a surprise act. Mr. Quinn followed Mr. Seinfeld’s set, enjoying an energized crowd.

Mr. Quinn and Mr. Seinfeld have worked together professionally on numerous occasions; Mr. Quinn’s 2010 one-man show, “Long Story Short,” was directed and produced by Mr. Seinfeld.

From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Quinn served as the anchor of “Saturday Night Live”’s “Weekend Update” segment. Current “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost will continue Bay Street’s summer comedy series on Saturday, July 1, at 8 p.m.
