As fall approaches, Southampton Arts Center (SAC) is gearing up for new and continued signature programming in September, including film screenings, wellness classes and art workshops.
Working from a live model, artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop will explore techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion, and foreshortening, starting with short poses and working toward one long pose. Registration required.
A soothing, deeply relaxing and immersive sound meditation led by bowl master and meditation DJ Daniel Lauter.
Join Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter at SAC for its 20th annual Surf Movie Night, a benefit for clean water and healthy beaches. Event features a surf swap, online auction and film screening. Refreshments available. Surf swap begins at 4 p.m. Film program begins at 7 p.m.
In collaboration with Blossom Sustainable Development and Judge Deborah Kooperstein (retired), SAC will screen “The Crime of the Century.” This is a searing indictment of Big Pharma and the political operatives and government regulations that enable over-production, reckless distribution and mass abuse of synthetic opiates. Exploring the origins, extent, and fallout of one of the most devastating public health tragedies of our time, with half a million deaths from overdoses this century alone, the film reveals that America’s opioid epidemic is not a public health crisis that came out of nowhere. Q&A discussion will precede the films.
Unless otherwise noted, films and jazz concerts take place outdoors on SAC’s West Lawn. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs or a blanket, and may arrive early with picnics. Films are free to members. SAC’s galleries are open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Learn more and register for events at southamptonartscenter.org/events.
