New York City band Shotgun Wedding is holding a lyric video contest for their song about the Hamptons, “Tumbleweed Tuesday,” off their debut album “South to Somewhere,” and anyone may enter.

The band recently released an official lyric video—a music video in which the song’s lyrics are displayed over the moving images—for their song “South of Somewhere” on YouTube; now, they are looking to involve aspiring videographers of all ages in their next music video.

“This is a fun way to interact with people,” said bandleader Dennis DelGaudio, who is also the band’s guitarist and vocalist. “We want to get people involved with what we’re doing. It helps spread the word about us, the band, and what we’re about.”

In addition to having their video entered into film festivals such as the Atlanta Shortsfest, the winners of the contest will receive $500 in cash and free tickets to a Shotgun Wedding concert at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on Monday, August 22. They will also receive social media exposure when the video is posted on the band’s YouTube, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Shotgun Wedding named their song “Tumbleweed Tuesday” after the term that South Fork locals gave to the day after Labor Day—the day when summer residents return to the city and the year-rounders can finally take back their bars, beaches and restaurants.

“We wrote the song to show love and support for Long Island in general and how much we dig it out there,” Mr. DelGaudio said, pointing out that he, pianist Wade Preston and vocalist Catherine Porter all grew up on Long Island. “So many people from New York City visit the Hamptons, so it seems to make sense.”

The self-proclaimed “city country band,” known for its unique combination of country tunes and urban-themed lyrics, consists of five established musicians whose friendship and shared love of music brought Shotgun Wedding to life.

“We hear plenty of country songs about life in the country, but there is none about living in the city,” Mr. DelGaudio explained. “We thought, ‘Let’s write about what we know.’ I don’t know about country living.”

Aside from being in Shotgun Wedding together, four of the five band members have in some way been part of Billy Joel’s band as well. Andy Cichon and Chuck Burgi are his current bassist and drummer, respectively, Mr. DelGaudio performed with him during his 2008 “Last Play at Shea” concerts and Mr. Preston was Mr. Joel’s so-called “stunt double” during some rehearsals for those concerts.

All lyric video submissions for “Tumbleweed Tuesday” must contain Hamptons footage, and the lyrics must flow in time to sing along with the song. It has to be in .mov or .mp4 format and sent as a Dropbox link to info@shotgunweddingnyc.com. The contest ends on Sunday, August 21.
