The Southampton Playhouse will present a curated lineup of films celebrating Spanish-language cinema and Spanish culture through Sunday, November 2. The series, titled “Spanish Programming at the Playhouse,” will include classic and contemporary films presented in Spanish or in English with Spanish subtitles.
“Gabby’s Dollhouse,” in English with Spanish subtitles, will be shown on Sunday, September 28, at 12:30 p.m. In this animated feature, Gabby sets out on a road trip with Grandma Gigi to the city of Cat Francisco. When her treasured dollhouse ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady, Gabby must navigate the real world to reunite the Gabby Cats and save her dollhouse.
“Dracula” (1931) will screen on Tuesday, October 29, in partnership with Cinema Tropical. This Spanish-language version of the horror classic follows Renfield, a clerk who falls under the spell of Count Dracula and assists in his dark mission to claim new victims in London. The film features Dracula’s pursuit of Eva and the efforts of her fiancé, Juan Harker and Professor Van Helsing to stop him.
“Coco,” in English with Spanish subtitles, will be shown on Sunday, November 2, in celebration of Día de los Muertos. The Pixar favorite tells the story of Miguel, a young boy who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family’s generations-old ban on music. His journey to the Land of the Dead reveals hidden truths about his ancestry and a deep connection to his heritage.
