The Springs Mystery Art Sale & Festival of the Arts, which returns to Ashawagh Hall May 11 through May 13, will feature art donations from students at the Angela Landa Elementary School in Havana, Cuba, alongside work created by Springs School students and professional artists.
The Mystery Art Sale will also host the “Festival of the Arts” on Saturday, May 13 at Ashawagh Hall. The event provides the public an opportunity to take free art workshops with a selection of some of our finest local artists in a variety of mediums from visual arts to the performing arts. The Parsons Blacksmith shop will also be open with sculptor James DeMartis holding a forging workshop. The day will culminate in a closing party featuring live music, food and auctions from 4 to 6 p.m. with a live Mystery Art auction beginning at 5 p.m.
The work of professional artists such as April Gornik, Eric Ernst, Randy Rosenthal, Bill King, Dan Rizzie, Sydney Albertini, Gabriele Raacke, Paton Miller and Peter Dayton, will be exhibited alongside the students’ work. There will be over 1,000 artworks for sale. All the artwork will be signed on the back only and sold anonymously for $20 each throughout the show. The "mystery" of whose work an art collector has bought will only be revealed at the end of the closing party on Saturday, May 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. The closing party will feature both a silent and live auction.
Money from the Springs Mystery Art Sale will support the Springs School Visiting Artist Program and other arts initiatives. The goal of this program is to support projects that will enrich the lives of the students, facilitate the interaction of artists and students, augment the curriculum and foster the school's reputation as a place where the arts are vital and diverse.
