Sticks and Stones Comedy Club is opening a new location at the Southampton Cultural Center (SCC), and this summer will feature a lineup of comedy stars from around the country as well as local talent. The lineup will offer laughs from top comics and producers with years of comedy event experience in the area. The theater at SCC will provide an intimate and comfortable setting for guests to enjoy an evening of laughter with friends and family.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the Southampton Cultural Center, the village’s hub for cultural, performance and community programming,” said Sticks and Stones Comedy Club owner Abby Russell. “Kirsten Lonnie of the Southampton Cultural Center is an incredible partner, a true patron of the arts.”
Russell, a filmmaker and producer, created the HBO-sponsored Hamptons Comedy Festival in 2000. She is a lifelong Hamptons resident, as is club producer Lynn Kaplan, a veteran comedy and TV executive, who worked with Louis C.K. and Conan O’Brien.
“We’ve worked hard to create a space that’s both inviting and entertaining, and we can’t wait to share it with the community,” Kaplan said.
Starting with shows on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1, Sticks and Stones Comedy Club will offer national headlining talent such as Carmen Lynch, Jordan Rock, Eddie Brill, Eddie Pepitone, Tom Cotter and Liz Miele. Two shows each night at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. will feature a headliner, a feature act and a host (with a different comedian on each date). The Club will offer comedy and other programming on a year-round basis, such as Spanish language-only comedy shows.
The club’s opening weekend will feature headliner Carmen Lynch, a comedy darling who’s been touring nationally and internationally and who has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” and headliner Jordan Rock, who can be seen on Pete Davidson’s latest television series called “Bupkis.” Rock has been selling out comedy clubs around the country, but he still calls himself “the most affordable Rock.” That’s right, because Chris Rock is his brother. Local, homegrown comedian Joe Winchell hosts both nights. Winchell grew up on the East End and went to Pierson High School and has performed comedy in the city and around Long Island. Now that the Hamptons will have its own comedy club, he won’t have to travel far for stage time.
“There used to be a comedy club in Southampton in the 1980s. Judd Apatow saw many great comedians perform when he was just a teenager, because his mom waitressed there,” said Russell. “Famed comedy manager Rick Messina used to be the club’s manager. So many comedy stars performed in this beautiful beach town, and now, we’re making our stage in Southampton come alive again.”
In addition to the comedy shows at SCC, on Monday, July 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. Rogers Memorial Library will present “My Life in Show Business,” a Q&A with comedian Eddie Brill about his life in show business at Rogers Memorial Library, 91 Coopers Farm Road, Southampton. This is a free community event.
Southampton Cultural Center is at 25 Pond Lane in Southampton Village. For details, visit scc-arts.org.
