Bay Street Theater is hosting a new “Story Time” series — a program of eight children’s books read aloud by Zoom by the authors themselves. Parents are encouraged to purchase the books so their child can read along with the author. Following each reading, authors will be available for a question-and-answer session with participants. The series is designed for kids ages 3 to 8 and begins Saturday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. with husband and wife authors Kate and Jim McMullan reading three of their books — “Happy Spring,” “I Stink” and “I’m Dirty.”

Kate McMullan is a New York-based author with more than 100 children’s book titles published. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, she began a career in publishing in New York, while beginning her writing, where she met her husband, illustrator Jim McMullan.

Jim McMullan has created images for magazine stories, books for adults and children, record covers, U.S. stamps, murals, and animated films. His most renowned body of work includes more than 80 posters created for Lincoln Center Theater. Among the most recognized of these posters are “Anything Goes,” “Carousel,” “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “My Fair Lady.” To celebrate this achievement Lincoln Center Theater recently mounted a permanent exhibit of his original poster art in the lobby of the Mitzi Newhouse Theater.

Other authors in the weekly series, which runs through May 15, will include Theresa Trinder reading “There Is a Rainbow” on April 3, Susan Verde reading “I Am Yoga” on April 24, and Linsey Davis reading “Stay This Way Forever” on May 1. Authors for other dates will be announced as they become available.

The series can be purchased as a package for $100, or $15 for individual tickets. Visit baystreet.org or call the box office, 631-725-9500, to purchase.
