The worlds of art and charity often collide on the East End, although rarely in the street. Traversing East End roadways, stop when you see installation pieces of recycled art around various villages and hamlets. When discovered, each piece includes donation information for the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital.

The Southampton resident, who calls herself The Tanster, has asked for anonymity. She studied at the Sorbonne in Paris before earning her degree from Stony Brook University in 2000. She has also earned a masters degree in film production from the New York Institute of Technology.

In its second year, the @gemeinschaftprojekt (Community Project in German) is a public, pop art initiative specifically designed to support Southampton Hospital. To follow The Tanster, visit instagram.com/gemeinschaftprojekt.
