Summer Break Kids Camp Options

With school out and summer in full swing, kids need some fun activities to keep them busy. Luckily, there are lots of summer break camps available for children all over the East End.

Bay Street Theatre

Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor has announced its “Music Theatre Camp” summer schedule. The first week-long camp will be led by Debra Barsha from August 1 to 5 and the second will be led by Marcy McGuigan from August 8 to 12. The camps run from 1:30 to 4 p.m. daily and include classes and games that incorporate all aspects of theatre. Students will also have the opportunity to write and perform in their own mini-musical.

“Music Theatre Camp” is recommended for children age 8 to 12. The cost for one week is $375 per child. For more information, visit baystreet.org or call 725-9500.

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center

The WHB PAC is offering a lineup of activities for children of all ages. Starting on Thursday, July 7, children will have the opportunity to join the circus for a day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The one-day circus sampler is for ages 8 and up and costs $75.

This year’s week-long “Musical Theatre Camps” will produce four shows where children will be cast on Monday and perform on Friday. The first show will be “The Jungle Book,” from July 11 through July 15. Next up is “The Little Mermaid,” which will be held from July 25 to 29. Following is “The Secret Garden,” planned for August 1 to 5. Lastly, “Alice in Wonderland” will be held from August 15 to 19. The camps will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost $400 each.

The “Teen Theatre Troupe” for ages 12 and up will put on a one-act play this summer. The camp will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning on July 6 and running through August 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee is $700.

A week-long “Broadway by the Beach” program will be “Club Glee!” dedicated to song and dance. The program will result in an original musical performance, is for ages 8 to 10, and will be held from July 18 to 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost of this camp is $450.

“Camp Broadway” will return, for ages 10 to 17 and will be held from August 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of “Camp Broadway” is $750.

“DanceCore Ballet Camp,” for ages 5 to 16, will run from August 22 to 26. The result will be an evening performance of “Sleeping Beauty.” The program fee is $300.

uild Hall

Guild Hall will present its fourth annual “Summer Student Film Workshop” from Monday, July 25, to Friday, July 29, from noon to 3 p.m. each day. Children age 9 to 13 are invited to learn the art of filmmaking during the five-session workshop, which costs $200, or $180 for members. For additional information, visit guildhall.org.

Parrish Art Museum

Parrish Art Museum’s “Kidsummer Art Camp” for ages 6 to 10 will be held on select days from July 11 through August 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp costs $475 per week, or $375 per week for Parrish members.

“Toddler Workshops” for ages 2 and 3 will be held from July 7 through 28 and again August 4 through 25 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Children and caregivers will create art projects in painting, collage, and sculpture. Toddlers much be accompanied by an adult caregiver for this workshop, which costs $20, or $10 for Parrish members.

“Parent/Child Workshops” for ages 3 and 4 will be held in three sessions. The first will be held from July 6 to 8; the next will be July 27 through 29; and the final session will be held from August 17 through 19. Sessions will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Each session costs $90, or $65 for Parrish members.

“Art Classes” for ages 5 to 7 will be offered in three sessions; from July 13 to 15, August 3 to 5, and August 24 to 26.

“Creative Studio” classes for ages 8 and up will also held in three sessions, from July 20 through 22, August 10 through 12, and August 24 through 26. Classes will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and cost $160 per session, or $130 for Parrish members.

The “Kidsummer Performing Arts Series” will be held on July 13 and July 27 at 2 p.m. Each performance is $10, or $5 for Parrish members. Summer performances include “Taikoza: The Exciting Rhythms and Sounds of the Taiko Drums” on July 13 and “Bambouk: A Clown Theatre Extravaganza” on July 27.

A special portfolio development summer course will be held for high school students on July 11, 18 and 25, continuing on August 1 and 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each course session. The cost is $225, or $150 for Parrish members.

outhampton Historical Museum

The Southampton Historical Museum will host “History Dig for Children,” an archaeology summer camp for ages 12 and up, which will run from July 11 through August 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on select days. At the end of each week, participants will share a mini-museum exhibit of their discoveries. The dig cost $400 per week and includes lunch. To register, call 283-2494.
