The ARTSI (Artists of Shelter Island) Open Studios Event, one of the most popular East End summer events, is back. Once again, Shelter Island artists will open their studios to the public offering an opportunity for visitors to meet the artists and get a close-up view of where they work and how they create their art.

The Open Studios Event runs Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22, from noon to 5 p.m. both days.

With the event canceled last year due to the pandemic, not only did the viewers miss out, but the artists did as well. Karen Kaier, an abstract artist and ceramicist, said, “I so enjoy the conversations I have with the visitors to my studio. My works are very open to interpretation and I love to hear a 5-year-old’s take on it versus a 50-year-old’s.”

Latinx pastel artist and photographer Ana Martínez Orizondo added, “I’m thrilled that we can once again share our passion for art.”

This year’s participating artists are: Sally Jacobs Baker, Linda Brienza, Janet Culbertson, Roz Dimon, Melora Griffis, Kathy Hammond, Megan Hergrueter, Karen Kiaer, Diana Malcolmson, Ana Martínez Orizondo, Jackie Pullman, Linda Puls, Jana Sheinker, Peter Waldner and Mike Zisser. The artists represent a range of media including oil and acrylic paintings, digital art, sculpture and photography. ARTSI was founded 12 years ago by a group of Shelter Island artists working in various disciplines and styles,
