LTV Studios World Voices Series, in association with Canio’s On The Road, will present a multimedia book talk with Dr. Blake Kerr, author of “The Angry Skies,” on Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m.
“The Angry Skies” is the unprecedented account of an American physician who infiltrates a renegade gang of Khmer Rouge soldiers in Cambodia. When Dr. Kerr goes to Cambodia in 2000 to start a clinic, he comes face to face with the architects of Pol Pot’s regime, including Nuon Chea, “Brother Number Two,” and Khieu Samphan, commander of the Khmer Liberation Armed Forces. Traveling to remote, heavily mined Khmer Rouge strongholds, Dr. Kerr meets child soldiers, physicians, warlords and generals as well as Pol Pot’s family and inner circle. He learns firsthand how their hatred for American bombing led them to raise enough troops to defeat the U.S.-backed government and fuel the largest genocide by any country ever of its own people.
Dr. Blake Kerr is a physician who practiced in the Hamptons for 35 years. He is the author of “Sky Burial: An Eyewitness Account of China’s Brutal Crackdown in Tibet,” “Tibetans Under the Knife,” “The Suppression of a People: Accounts of Torture and Imprisonment in Tibet” and “The Angry Skies: A Physician’s Journey Into Cambodia’s Heart of Darkness.” He has been published in The Washington Post, The New York Times, Tibetan Review, Utne Reader and Cultural Survival.
Dr. Kerr’s first award-winning documentary film, ‘The Angry Skies: A Cambodian Journey,” pressured the Cambodian government to arrest Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan in 2007 for trial in an international tribunal with Cambodian and U.N. judges. After Dr. Kerr’s testimony at the Spanish National Court against the past president and prime minister of China for committing genocide in Tibet, judge Ismael Moreno issued arrest warrants for Jiang Zemin and Li Peng to Interpol in 2014. Five months later, when China pressured Spain to reverse its National court findings, Dr. Kerr made “Eye of the Lammergeier” from hidden camera footage documenting China’s torture of Tibetan political prisoners in Tibet and forced abortions and sterilizations at People’s Hospitals throughout Tibet, for the Court of World Opinion.
Tickets to Dr. Kerr’s book talk are $10 in advance ($15 at the door). For more details, visit ltveh.org. LTV Studios is at 75 Industrial Road in Wainscott.
