Mark Borghi gallery in Sag Harbor opens “The Bridge: Edreys Wajed,” with an artist’s reception on Saturday, August 27, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will be on view August 26 to September 8.

Edreys Wajed is a multidisciplinary creative based in Buffalo, New York whose passion for music and performance is at the center of his recent work. With lines as the central element of his art, each of Wajed’s distinctive markings denote a specific musical instrument or sound and its related movement.

Indeed, Wajed’s arrangements and characteristic musical notations, which feature layers of colors and text, can be read or looked at as a street art version of chart or sheet music, creating a painting or drawing that produces music to the eye. Wajed’s creative process begins by selecting a song to which he has an emotional connection or association based on memories throughout his life. Each painting stands as a visual representation of the audio recording and song itself with feeling, bounce and vibration.

Wajed’s exhibition, “The Bridge,” which features paintings and sculptures, speaks to the lifestyle and language of hip hop. Works produced for this exhibition explore language unique to hip hop culture and the various types of nonverbal communications used by those within it. Through his works in “The Bridge,” Wajed seeks to decode parts of the unique hip hop language and create a bridge to make it more accessible to the general public.

Mark Borghi gallery is at 34 Main Street, Sag Harbor. For details, visit markborghi.com.
